A city tour line, line 0 existed in Frankfurt as far back as the 1930’s. Similar to the present Cider Express it also offered cider and pretzels. Hessian songs were played on a gramophone to entertain the passengers. The route was identical to the current one with the exception of Zeil and Alte Oper. Service was curtailed in 1939. The Cider Express was inaugurated to mark the disbandment of the last two-axle trams and was actually only intended to run for a short time. Due to its huge success it still remains in existence today.
